Full Subject–Based Banding
Riverside Secondary embarked on subject-based banding (SBB) from 2017, as part of schools in Phase 1. SBB allows greater flexibility of subject offerings to students who perform well in subjects such as English, Mother Tongue, Mathematics and Science.
To further customise learning to each student’s needs, MOE announced the remaking of secondary school pathways in the form of Full Subject-Based Banding (Full SBB) in 2019. For more information on remaking of pathways, please click here.
From 2020, Riverside Secondary School is one of the 28 Full Subject-Based Banding (FSBB) pilot schools implementing mixed-stream classes from secondary one and offering Humanities at more demanding level.
Under FSBB, students in lower secondary are offered subjects in two categories.
Common Curriculum, which students will take together with classmates in the same form class: Art; Character and Citizenship Education (CCE); Design & Technology (D&T); Food and Consumer Education (FCE); Music; Physical Education (PE); ALP and LLP lessons
Subject-based banding (SBB), which eligible students are offered at a higher level: English; Humanities (Geography/History/ Literature in English); Mathematics; Mother Tongue and Science
Under FSBB, students in upper secondary are offered subjects in two categories.
Common Curriculum comprising Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) and Physical Education (PE);
Subject-based banding (SBB) comprising English; Humanities (Geography/History/Social Studies/Literature in English); Mathematics; Mother Tongue and Science
