CCA Activities

The Riverside School Choir was formed in 1988; a mixed choir comprising of members aged 13 to 17. Under the leadership of Ms. Lee Wanrong, Riverside Choir has dazzled audiences with its unique blend of musical sophistication, spirited presentation, and ensemble virtuosity. The members from secondary one to five, reflect the ethnic, religious and cultural diversity of Singapore and pursue a rigorous musical curriculum at Riverside Secondary School. While keeping up with their academic demands, the students balance schoolwork with an unwavering determination to excel in choir and embody the choir motto ‘Singing from our Hearts’.

The choir was awarded Certificate of Distinction at Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation in 2015 and 2017. Students spend months rigorously training for their SYF performance with grit and determination to give their best. Through training sessions students learn the value of discipline, the importance of time management and straddling between commitments.

Public performance

As an icon of musical excellence, Riverside choir has been invited to perform for numerous public platforms. RS Choir has performed at various locations such as Woodlands Library, Khoo Teck Puat hospital and SG50 performance @ AMK Hub and Voices of Singapore @CHIJMES. Performances were a great success with the public who showed their support for RS Choir.

International Competition

Our training is diverse and rigorous but at the same time, interesting and challenging. Students are given opportunities to compete on an international level and meet choral groups from various parts of the world. In 2016, Riverside choir took part in the Orientale Concentus 9th International Choral festival held at SOTA. Amidst tough competition, the choir clinched the Silver Grade 1 for Mixed Voices, Junior Youth category.

School performance

Members are given ample opportunities to perform both inside and outside school. Every year, RS choir leads the school in the singing of Chinese New Year songs during Chinese New Year celebration and singing of national songs during National Day celebration.

Level Enrichment

Each level will go on an enrichment trip to help members grow and acquire important social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills and to help them sustain lifelong interest in choral singing. As part of a student centric programme, members discuss and choose the enrichment venue that they feel will benefit them the most.

Yearly camp

The yearly camp is a 2 Day choir camp is planned and designed by students to teach, inspire, and most importantly: HAVE FUN! With exciting games like, Scavenger Hunt, Don’t Forget the Lyrics and more, students improve social and team-building skills critical to a strong choir. Every camper gets to perform in the final year end performance on the last day showcasing their individual talent.
