Malay Dance

Mission & Vision:

To create a community of students who are able to appreciate different forms of dance.

To nurture confident and thinking dancers.

CCA Activities

The Malay Dance CCA offers the students an exciting array of Malay Dance skills and techniques. On joining the Club, the students are given a basic understanding of the different types of dance in Malay Culture. They will master the basic steps in dance such as joget, masri, inang, asli and zapin in their 4-5 years in the CCA. In addition, other dance genres such as silat, contemporary malay dance and samrah will also be introduced to widen students’ knowledge on various dance techniques.

The Malay Dance Club has performed creditably well by achieving awards in all its participation in the SYF. It is no surprise when the club was asked on many occasions to perform at public places such as National Day Celebration and other festivals such as the Peace International Youth Art Festival.

In the recent SYF Arts Presentation 2015, our dancers put up a performance entitled Pencak Kemuncak which portrays the Malay Martial Arts movements. It depicts the glory of the ancient warriors. The choreography highlights the swiftness, agility and sharpness of our dancers. This dance has indeed maximised the potential of our dancers as it allows them to explore new techniques, adapt to fast beats and evoke the sentiments of a warrior. They have once again brought glory to Riverside by clinching Certificate of Distinction.
